The Joyous Beginnings of the Frederick Prayer Room

Blog

It began during a world-wide pandemic. God placed people together in places they had never been—God moved the players, God provide a place, and all the people had to do was be obedient to the call. Through a series of events that can only be described as the Holy Spirit moving, the 24-7 Prayer Room Frederick was birthed—in the beginning of a pandemic.

Our one year anniversary was held on June 3rd, 2021. We were finally able to gather people together in this sacred place to celebrate what God has done! While we have been open for a full year, due to the pandemic, we were only able to have a few people visit at a time. Finally, one year later we were able to celebrate in full community!

Community is a wonderful thing. We had people coming and going all afternoon during our celebration time. We offered cookies, live praise music, rock painting, and tours of our prayer stations—we have over 35 hands-on prayer experiences. The best part, however, was being together in person, and meeting both old and new friends. We were able to fellowship! We were able to connect the dots to the people who had only been names on an e-mail list, or people who had been on a zoom call. Here we were, face-to-face, and it was magical!

Some were singing praise songs, some were reading Pete Grieg’s books in the front room, some were painting upstairs, some were in the backyard sitting around and chatting, and one was nursing a newborn baby in our upstairs area, next to the world map of prayer. Some present had never been there before, and others were part of the hospitality team, but they had not yet had the opportunity to meet each other in person. And, of course, some were praying together. The psalmist writes, “How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity.” (Psalm 133-NRSV).

Through prayer, we are already making an impact upon the city of Frederick, Maryland in just one year’s time. We are so excited about what God is doing through this ministry, and we are eager to be obedient to the next part of the journey.

We continue to prayer walk the city from the Prayer Room every Friday morning at 8:30 am. We also have more fellowship events planned to include our backyard “paint your prayer” nights. Meanwhile, keep listening for God’s voice, and you, too, may be surprised by the journey that the Spirit leads you on.
